Barbara N. Vosk, Ph.D.
Barbara N. Vosk, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist who has been in private practice in Raleigh since 1984. Originally from New York, she earned her doctorate from the University of Georgia in 1982. Utilizing a variety of clinical tools that draw on cognitive-behavioral, family systems and interpersonal perspectives, Dr. Vosk tailors treatment to effectively help clients reach their goals. Dr. Vosk is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and has received advanced training in treating adult survivors of abuse.

Clinical Services

Dr. Vosk works with individuals seeking help with depression, anxiety, grief and loss issues, recovery from recent or childhood trauma, and relationship problems. She utilizes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) when appropriate, and finds this to be a particularly helpful tool in dealing with trauma-related issues. She is familiar with other energy-based modalities and employs these approaches as well. Her training and experiences with mindfulness and meditation are also introduced as useful adjuncts to the therapy process. She enjoys working with couples that are seeking to improve communication, conflict resolution skills, and intimacy. She also does pre-marital counseling and assists couples with blended family issues.

Approach to Treatment

In my work I seek to provide a safe and caring environment within which thoughts and feelings can be expressed and explored. I see my role as helping clients recognize how history and the current environment influence their view of themselves, relationships and the world. Together we identify goals for therapy and develop a shared understanding of what will be most helpful. I seek to give my clients tools, and encourage behavioral change which will help them effectively manage their symptoms so they may have more capacity for joy and fulfillment in their lives.
