THEORETICAL ORIENTATION

Dan Ryan, Ph.D.
is a Licensed Psychologist who has worked in the field of mental health since 1975 in a wide variety of settings. He has been in full-time private practice since moving to Raleigh in 1984.
The focus of his work includes consultation and counseling services regarding problems with anxiety, anger management, not being assertive enough, stress-related disorders, relationship issues, substance abuse and problems of adults who grew up in alcoholic or other dysfunctional family environments. Other areas of expertise include helping people to prepare psychologically for surgery and helping smokers to quit smoking.
Dan is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and holds the Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders from the American Psychological Association's College of Professional Psychology. He has been utilizing a process called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) since 1994, and finds it to be a helpful addition to treatment for a wide range of problems that clients present.

Directions to his office are as follows:

From the northern half of the Raleigh Beltline, take the Wake Forest Road exit and go north exactly one-half mile to Dresser Court (there is a traffic light at this intersection). Make a left turn onto Dresser Court and go one block to Benson Dr. Make a right turn onto Benson Dr. Once on Benson, make a right turn into the second driveway on your right (into Williamsburg Commons, the complex my office is in). After making the right turn, bear right immediately inside the parking area. My building, 3710 Benson Dr., will be the second building on your left after you have beared right.
