Mark
Bailes, LCSW, BCD I often, work with clients who seek help for life changes, such as adjustment to a developmental stage or a new situation such as young adulthood to middle adulthood (20's to 30'S), divorce, loss of employment, loss of a loved one. I also find that in my practice I often work with people who are struggling with more chronic issues, such as Depression, ADHD, ADD, Adult Children of Alcohol/Drug Abuse (ACOA), ongoing relationship difficulties, co-dependency, and Alcohol/Drug abuse. I am particularly interested in family therapy, men's issues, parenting, trauma, relationships with aging parents, Obsessive Compulsive disorder(OCD), compulsive behavior (sexual, computer use, etc.), adolescents, and single parent and stepfamily issues. I completed my Masters in Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1984 and my undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1974 with a major in Rehabilitation/Psychology. My treatment approach has developed over years of learning and growing as a therapist and as a person. My own work to reach personal fulfillment, to accept myself and others, and to overcome loss and change in my life has informed the way I work with clients. I see counseling as a collaborative process between the person/family and the therapist. Clients have the chance to explore and understand themselves in the context of their past and current relationships, and to change and grow with the inevitable changes of life. Through this therapeutic collaboration, clients improve the quality of their lives, and their ability to love, work and play. When working with clients and families I use a variety of theoretical approaches which enables me to choose a treatment model that best fits the client's needs and issues.(Cognitive-behavioral, family systems, interpersonal and psychodynamic). I have also received specialized training in clinical hypnosis, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Critical Incident Debriefing). (Practice history) I have two office locations: one at Hope Valley Psychotherapy Associates, LLP in Durham, convenient to both Chapel Hill and the Research Triangle, and at Lake Boone Counseling and Psychological Services LLP, just off the Beltline in Raleigh.
